How long are Parenting Together programs?
It depends on the format your court accepts. Our live class runs three full days, eight hours each day. The co-parenting course online takes 20 hours or more at your own pace. Parenting Together therapy is twenty weekly sessions, about twenty weeks, or faster if your court approves a more frequent schedule.
Will my court accept a court approved co-parenting course taken online?
Our programs have been approved in courts across the U.S., Canada and Australia for close to twenty years. No provider is accepted everywhere, though, and every judge, lawyer or mediator sets their own rules. Confirm before you enroll and we will help you check.
What's the difference between the low-conflict and high-conflict co-parenting programs?
Conflict level. Parenting Together – Co-parenting in Low-Conflict Separation suits separated parents who can still communicate reasonably, even when things are strained. Parenting Together Through Separation – Co-parenting in High-Conflict Situations is built for frequent or intense conflict, and focuses on managing it and keeping children out of the middle. If you are unsure which describes your situation, send us your order and we will tell you.
Who is this NOT for?
Not for you if there is family violence or a protection order between you, if your court named a provider we are not on or a program we do not run, if your order requires in-person attendance, if you cannot commit to full attendance, or if you want a certificate to buy rather than a program to complete. Ask us and we will tell you honestly.
Do I get a certificate or a letter?
A letter. It lists your dates, hours, topics covered and your clinician's credentials, and is issued only after full attendance and approval of your assignments. Therapy clients also receive a two to three page progress summary, and additional letters are available for courts or legal counsel on request. Courts want a full document, and printable certificates are the most common reason people repeat a program.
Can I complete the whole program online?
Yes. All three formats run online start to finish, so there is nothing to travel to. No waiting lists, no time off work, and you can start today rather than waiting for a local intake date.
Can I do a parenting program alongside another court-ordered program?
Yes. Many clients are ordered to complete more than one, often a parenting program alongside anger management, domestic violence, or substance abuse. Tell us what your order says and we will arrange the sequence and the paperwork so nothing is duplicated or missed.
